On the back of a magnificent century from opener Usman Khawaja, Australia dominated the proceedings on Day 1 of the fourth Test against India.

The stylish southpaw remained unbeaten on 104 runs and propelled Australia's total to 255/4 at the end of Day 1.

In his delightful knock, Khawaja whacked 15 fours as Indian bowlers had no answers to the southpaw's tenacity and resilience.

There was a 9-over phase on Day 1 in which the momentum swung from India's corner to Australia's camp.

After India took the new ball in the start of 82nd over, Aussie batters scored runs at past pace.

Khawaja and Cameron Green scored 54 runs in the last nine overs of the day.

The Aussie batters combined for eight boundaries in the last 54 balls of the day.

Khawaja was the rock behind the three-50-run partnerships for Australia on Day 1.
