West Indies have announced the squad for the T20 World Cup and an unknown name in the lot is making a lot of headlines.

Who is Cariah?

Yannic Cariah is a leg spin all-rounder and a left-handed batsman. He has played only one T20I in the last 6 years.

A find of U-19 

Cariah, 30, is a find of Under-19 cricket. He played in the 2010 World Cup. Players like Craig Brathwaite, Evin Lewis and Jermaine Blackwood also played alongside him.

T20I debut in 2013

In the U-19 World Cup, he scored a century and took eight wickets. He made his First-Class debut in 2011 and T20I debut in 2013.

Just 4 T20Is

Yannic Cariah has not played T20 matches since 2016. In his career so far, he has played 4 T20Is in which he could only take one wicket.

Out of CPL

In his last T20, he was part of the Trinbago Knight Riders team. In the ongoing Caribbean Premier League, no team roped Cariah in its side.

ODi debut in ODIs

Yannic Cariah played in the ODI series against New Zealand in August 2022 where he took 3 wickets in 3 matches and scored 53 runs.

Wild card?

West Indies selector Desmond Haynes has described Yannic Cariah's selection in the World Cup as a wild card. He hopes that he Cariah will do wonders.
